on the street of Concon Chile

week 2 change 4

Hola again from Concón, Chile! Its a beautiful 24* outside and the waves are crashing just gorgeously! Ya, I am living in a tousist paradise! hahaha Its so awesome!

So this week started out just to throw another loop into things, Elder Baquedano got sent to Valparaiso on an emergency change! So I got ANOTHER new companion, Elder Despain (familia?)! He is from Powhatan, Virginia, and his dad is santa clause..... really! He has a year round christmas shop and its also a print shop! He is down to his last three changes, including this one and he is a great guy! He is actually very similar to Donovan Durfy, (SOMEONE has to tell Jeff Romans) but he is a great guy! I love him! and we work really well together! I am starting to feel really confident teaching and especially with Elder Despain! We roll right off of each other and its just working awesomelly! On the flip side, we are both new in Concón and so it is a complete learning experience! Right now we are just passing by a bunch of people who we have record of having listened to the missionaries in the past! And well we have to learn the boundaries and all but its tons of fun!

Nothing too exciting happened this week, except I finally went with all the right papers to do my carnet and I didnt get charged 30 mil for being late! YAY! I was a little nervous about that! And after this we are going to the doctor again and hopefully I get the last pin taken out of my finger! =D So that is great news for me!

As for the investigators, well a few of them are really receptive! We have just tried to get a feeling for the area and get to know the investigators! We also have come to realize that 2 different HUGE RICH communities are a major part of our area! We Went and passed by a few of the old investigators there and wow, its like a different atmosphere! I dont even understand it! haha Its like the streets are made of something more expensive and ALL the houses are at least 2 stories, some 3 and even 4! and some of the COOLEST designs you can think of! haha It was a lot of fun to just go in there and try! but we did gfet some return addresses and so we will be returning! Also, we are going to try and visit a lot of the members and see if we can find some investigators through part member families and things like that!

The only downside, its a big tourist attraction, and so a lot of the people we talk with dont live here, but its still fun! Actually, our sector goes right down to the beach, and I belive we have some investigators down there that we WILL be passing by! Its so gorgeous! ALso, everytime we go to viña, we go right on the beach in the bus and you can see the HUGE waves crashing and I love it everytime! haha

But thats how it goes, we also had a crazy war in the house the other day and well...it was DESTROYED!!!! Cereal boxes thrown, chairs flipped, hangers flying, airsoft gun shooting,.... ya it was worse than an atomic bomb! haha but tons of fun! and now its all cleaned! haha

Well that was my week, hopefully we can get some baptisms lined up, its a little difficult when we didnt get left with anything, but it shall be an adventure! =D Lovin it here! take care everyone I love you all!

week 1 Change 4

Where in the world do I start! New Area, New companion, and lots of new experiences! haha

So this week I arrived in Con Con and CHUTA it is GORGEOUS!!!!!! I loved the bus ride in with the waves crashing on the rocks and the waves here are HUGE!!! Its so awesome! haha And then my first day I got to unpack a little and we went over some goals and things like that! My new companion is Elder Baquedano, he is from Honduras and this is his first change as senior companion; he only hs two changes more than me too! haha But he loves to do practices furing companionship study and WOW! I have learned a TON from him in this first week! He is kinda a funny guy cause he looks like he is always serious, but most nearly all of it is a joke! Not in a bad way, he just likes to joke! haha Luckily he wants to work hard ajd have some baptisms! Unfortunately he didnt have any investigators ready for baptism, but after this first week we have 6 people with a baptimal date that they are working for! We were literally talking with everyone about baptism it was AWESOME! He has helped me to really understand what "keeping the destination in mind" really means! haha Its been great!

I also, am living with strictly latinos! haha Its quite possibly one of the craziest things I have done in my life! It is tons of fun though! ALthough I am pretty sure these letters on mnoday´s are the only days that I speak english! haha I am loving it! They definitely live a little....ok a LOT different than me, but its fun learning how they do things and to enjoy this time here in Con Con with them!

The only bad thing that happened this week was we went to a birthday party of an investigator, and her mom brought us chocolate milk....well she said it was chocolate milk. I dont know what she did wrong or if the milk was bad, but it was like it had grapes in it. I gagged it down and she offered more but I clearly said I was perfect! haha Just thinking about it makes me sick. then we didnt feel very good afterwards! haha Thats life. Then today I was suppossed to get my "nails" taken out of my finger, but HOLY DIFFICULT! I had to come and then take xrays and then go get them at another hospital and blegh.... and I had to finish my carnet today. Oh, I mean do the whole thing, and well the registro de civil (civil register? idk) was closed, so now I am going to get fined tomorrow when i finish it. I sure as heck dont hope its too much, but its kinda dumb cause I had today to do it and then I got a doctors appointment scheduled and we waited hour and a half for the doctor to tell me I hd to go to the office (10 blocks away) and bring another paper. Chuta, I just am tired! All day in Viña running around. We grabbed a single empenada for lunch. Oh and we had a surprise entrevista with the president in the mission house cause he needed to see how things are. So my day was hectic, but overall great week!

Oh, and I started cleaning the pension this morning.... it needs a lot of help! but there isnt a single cleaning equipment/ soap! ya, I got work ahead of me! haha but that alright! I also need to learn my area lots better still! haha but all is well! I am working hard, and so im banking on getting some baptisms! WOO!!! haha Chao!

Wow....I cant belive I just finished another change! haha 6 weeks here and gone in no time at all! And what a semana, errr week! The biggest things all happened as of friday until today!! haha so here we go!

Friday we were working hard and we finished the day and then about 10:30pm the persident calls. What in the world? I answer and he says "hola Elder Marvin, I need to talk with your companion." So I turn off the music we have going, and I give him the phone. Very calmly they have their conversation, but I realized he totally just got a new assignment, and something somewhat important if the president is calling, and it hits me "ZONE LEADER" but that means I am staying! and in my confused and rationalizationism (word¿, ni importa) I am sure that I am staying in Peña Blanca! WOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!! haha More baptisms here in this big ole´ ward! Then he finishes and I talk with Elder Alvarez and he tells me yes, he is going to be zone leader, and I ask him where and he tells me "En Peña Blanca" WHAT!?!¿!¿!?!?!¡ hahaha It was such a surprise! So I am sure that i am leaving at that point, but that was fine! We were excited and all was well!

Then we worked all day saturday and all was well. the zone leaders called and told us that yes "me voy" (im going) and Elder Alvarez is staying, but then we realize, that means The zone leaders are changing for peña and we learn that Elder Zorrilla and Elder Petersen are BOTH leaving Villa and they are giong to "shotgun" two new elders in there! Holy cow! That was a shocker! haha Then that night I did some packing, but not really anything much.

Sunday, first off we had to go and bring 3 investigators to church, and the car that was going to help us never came! So we ran to get them and I bought a colectivo to carry us all! Funny story though, we were walking to the car and randomly, Ysolda, the elderly half paralyzed lady we are teaching, her pants fall down! What in the world!?!?¿!¿? haha We all laughed and climbed in and left! haha Then in church during priesthood bishop asked me to stand in when Gabriel was receiving the priesthood, that was cool! and then he asked me to say a few things since I was leaving and I said thanks and just bore my testimony. It was pretty cool cause I love this ward so mucha dn all the members are so great! I will definitely be leaving a little bit of my heart in Peña Blanca! Then I said my goodbyes, and got some contact info from some people and then we were off to lunch. Lunch went great with the familia valenzuela, and in the end we sang a song for them and they started crying. OH MAN! haha They ARE familia para mì! So we got some info from them and they they gave us cookies and fruit when we left! haha So great! Then we had to go over the the Zone Leaders pension for what I THOUGHT was an intercambios, and well we were there and all was well and all of a sudden the assistents to the president show up! WHAT!? haha Then it clicks, someone is going to be the new Assistent! Elder PETERSEN!!!! HoLY COW!¿!?!¿¡'¡ My "second companion" is giong to be an assistent!? whoa, ya I was a little in shock! So we kept Elder Zorrilla with us and get the lucky threesome until changes on tuesday. Then Elder ALvarez and Elder Zorrilla felt bad for me and decided they could tell me where I was going. and my next area of work will be in...........CON CON "B" in Viña Del Mar!!!!!!!=D I be moving to the city life baby! They tell me that I basically am going to be working on the beach! haha I am SO EXCITED to go preachin´ it up! haha but really I am very excited! haha I have heard lots of cool things about it! Anyways, we finished the day in peña and visited some investigators and got some more info! We visited the familia Quilodran and all was well! In the Night I just made some cookies and worked on my cover for my journal, which is TOTALLY AWESOME!!!! I used green and blue paper, and a picture of jesus with some birds and under it I stole the tag from a card that says "I´m a mormon" hahaha Ya, its epic! haha

Then today we got ready, I washed some clothes and then we went to our reunion de cambios and bore our testimonies and took some pictures! Then we went and ate pizza together at tele pizza. So tomorrow I will find out who is my new companion. the president changed how he does things, now we go to our next zone and we find out who is our conpanion there. So ya, next week you all shall know! haha

So thats my week! I finally have my first big change! I am SO excited! and my thumb is doing well! I think they are going to take out the pins this week, and I will already be in viña! haha wow, livin´the life and LOVING IT! Chao my loved ones!

week 5 change 3

Well there goes another week and WOW! IT WAS A FAST ONE!!!! haha

Last monday I went home and decided I was going to rest cause I felt sick right? well I crashed. I slept for 2.5 hours and then it was time to work, and I still felt sick. We finished the day and my comp said "ya, lets give you a blessing" I easily agreed and so we did that and planned as if nothing was wrong and we were going to work really hard the next day. and we did. haha In fact, the next morning I woke up with energy! something I hadnt experienced in a while! haha It just comes to show the power in the priesthood!

We got some new investigators with a baptismal date now! a family that accepted a date to work for and are super great! The mom is the hardest of all of them, which is a little bit backwards, but thats just the way that it goes! haha They are so receptive though and I LOVE IT! haha Its fun teaching people who actually want to learn in place of someone who doesnt give a rip! haha

We also ran into crazy carlos again this week! haha That was interesting, because we didnt have very much time but he really wanted us to visit with him. So we stopped for a minute and shared with him. He told us his story on how one time an hermana in the ward said that everyone could have coffee except for him, and now he is inactive. Really its quite the story, and I am sure that it sounds funnier everytime! haha But we talked with him, shared a scripture, and then we had to leave, but he said " you know I would really just like for you guys to just have some time to talk, you are always behind your schedule and never have time to just sit and chat. and we explained, yes, this is true. and then we left and he was a bit disgusted with us, but oh well! haha

Also, this week there has been fires out the wazzooo!!!!! The mountiains around us were actually in flame for like 3 days, and it made the CNN-Chile because it was out of control for a while! We have had smoke in the air for at least the last week, and I am pretty sure that they are still burning some things now, but at least it is under control.

Nothing really big happened this week, and it all went really fast! I just want to end with two more thoughts. First, we had another confirmation, but not both cause the other investigator that was baptized last week showed up late today. haha but thats alright. but Francisco, the 10 year old, he was confirmed and when he finished he juts had a great big ole smile and the bishop gave him a hug and it was just awesome!

The second thing is just a funny splurt. I dont know if I have said anything About this before, but there is an hermano in the ward who every sunday is creepier than michael Jackson. hahaha I say that with as much love as is possible. He is married and has kids and everything, but every week when I shake his hand he gives me the weirdest smile. and at first I thought maybe it was just me, but I told Elder Alvarez and he gets a kick out of it everytime and he agrees that it is clear that this man is a creeper. haha At least he doesnt creep anyone in the ward, but its just weird cause he will wink or try to give me an EXTENDED sigh hug. Like minute long, but I now how to push off! haha but thats all. and I only see him once a week, so we are good.

Thats all I got for this week! It went REALLY fast, and this is the last week of the change. I am afraid I am on the choppping block and might get shipped out of Peña Blanca, but we shall see! Chao!
