Week 5 Change 5

holy moly, where does time even go! I swear time is going even faster now than ever before in my life! I cant believe we will be starting on may soon! wow! But I am absolutely loving it! this week was a little interesting with Orlando, our investigator most firm. We really want to help him so that he can prepare for his baptism, and he is really starting to be awesome! Before we would always haveto ask him to turn off whatever he was using, but now we show up and the video games go off and he is ready to listen to us! Its awesome! And his mom is just helping a lot too! They just need to go to church now and then they will just start loving the way they feel, but church is just the trial at hand. We also had some crazy nights in the office this week! With the end of the change nearing and with rent that has to be payed and with all the changes, we got a lot to do in this next week and a half before Elder Castillo will be leaving nd I will have to be doing all the financial work on my own. Im not really nervous to be on my own cause I have all the processes in notebooks, so I can follow those, but its just been easy to ask him, and I am going to just have to do things on my own soon. it will just be a little longer to get things done at first i think. I just think its crazy with Elder Castillo having been here for 9 months, I can show him like one word of an important letter and he can just give me all the information on a pension he has never lived in and he just has it all down! I went through and started to organize things in a way that I will best know them so I will know where everything is at. Its kinda fun to do that so that I can get rid of the junk too. I feel pretty good now! So last night we had to go and buy bus tickets for the zone conference and we spent an hour and a half getting the trips we needed and that was just kinda fun! I think its crazy having to go and make sure that everyone will have a trip down and back to their pensions in a days trip. and making sure they just have all that they need. Then we got a call from president and we got a ROAD TRIP planned for this week! Should be fun! Just gotta bring a counselor up north and then back. Should be fun I am excited for my first road trip so that I can se more parts of Chile! Its going to be awesome! Thats pretty much all I got for this week. Just to throw everyone off, we are having daylights saving time today, but we are falling back an hour..... weird huh? haha cuidanse! Elder Marvin

hola peoples! I almost got lost in what week of the change I am in! this week was a little bit crazy! Starting with last sunday we had a day just loaded with lessons! Every missionaries dream is just to walk from house to house and just get in and we almost got into every house that we talked to! it was incredible! haha We first contacted a lady after lunch with the familia Escarate (red heads hahaha) and we set up a cita for tonight actually and then we decided to go up and try to do some finding activity! So we knocked a door or two, and the first own we waiting a while until I realized we were getting picture taken of us from a cell phone in the front window....awkawrd. haha then a guy came out and apologized and said they were drunk, maybe another day. haha So we climbed up the hill and stopped and helped a lady who was folding her clothes she was selling in front of her house and we talked with her and she was super nice and super concerned about her family! She has to have family time, but she said she would like if we shared with her in the future! Yes! So after getting that all finished we asked her if she knew of anyone else who could use some help, and she said she thought her neighbor was a member, so we decided to see who it was. and it was a menos activo family and so we shared with them and it went really well too! the spirit was there, and it was just awesome, and they said they werent sure about church, but that they would try and make it (they live almost in the next ward over they live so far away from the chapel. haha) and we shall help them. Then we asked them if they knew of anyone else and they said they had a neighbor who wasa member too! So we passed by there, but they decided to lie and say their grandma, the member, wasnt home...but I could see her standing behind them at the door. Oh well! So we went down to an old investigator and had a super great lesson with them too! José, the antiguo investigator, just has to get divorced from his first wife, which is rather difficult in chile, but he is working on that and then he wants to be baptized! and we had a quick "once" with them. then we rolled out and finished the night with a quick scripture with another investigators named Paul. it was fantastic! The rest of the week was a little different... We have had a lot of stuff to get done here in the office and not a lot of time! haha So we had a couple long nights, but we have also gotten out and taught Orlando. he is progressing nicely! he just needs to come to church and recognize that God is answering his prayers! He wants to be sure about getting baptized, which I love! haha Its crazy to think that I already have a month here in the office! doesnt feel like that at all! but I am dying to go out for a run, and winter is coming on and getting cold! haha and no one really wants to run with me. oh well, maybe soon! haha I am just ready to get my heart really pumping hard! haha Other than that...pretty normal week. I did some running around to get stuff ready for the conferences that we had this week. I helped set that up, and buy food, and helped get the assistents ready for their trip north. Lots of running around actually! and entering bills, and organizing and cleaning. I think I will have changed the office a little bit by the time I am through, just trying to make things clear, clean, and under control. and I like to reorganize things just so I know where it is all at! haha Well that was pretty much my week! How was yours? Cuidanse! Elder Marvin

week 3 change 5

Wowzerz, have I really been in the office for 3 weeks now! Its just crazy to think that its possible! haha

Well this week wasnt too different except for a few nights we had to go and run to get bills paid: one in Quilpue and one in Recreo Alto. Im starting to like driving a little more, but more when we get a little outside of Viña Centro! When we are driving in Viña, its crazy! Although it´s a little better where the streets are more calm! haha And if I am right, next change I will have to do ALL the driving, so better just to not live in ignorance! haha

This week was also better for the number of lessons we taught. Not that numbers really has anything to do with it, I just see them as a reference point where we can see where we need to do better and how we can help those we are teaching. Last week was a little rough, but at the same time with all the office stuff that we have to take care of, its understandable that we simply cant quite do the same.

We have been teaching a mom and son (the mom s a member and the son is not) he has a muscle disorder or something like that. He has his wheelchair, but can move some. But he has a hard time doing some things we ask, like going to church, but his mom needs to help with that. I feel confident in saying that if she would do her part, that he would do it too and it would be easy! haha But we are really trying to help them feel comfortable in the church, and I think that he should do some great progressing!

Also this week I went on an interchange to Forestal, just on the side of Viña, and we taught a few different lessons. The first we had to go down like THROUGH 7-8 houses just to get to it. It was crazy! I thought we were teaching the first people we went by, or the second but we just kept going! She has such a hard life, but we were trying to help her to help her family. Its hard though, she thinks that she just has to rely on herself and what God gave her, but doesnt think going to church will help at all. It was sad really, but I feel that we had a good lesson with her. Then we ran into a guy on the street who is a member but is having problems and is seeking spiritual help. So we talked with him a minute too! It was a good change!

I am starting to get the flow of things here in the office. Its crazy, and I still have lots to learn but I am starting to get things under control! I can do all the bills pretty easily, its just the more specific jobs that are a little difficult. And we are also trying to see how we can make the system better for entering systems and that. and so I am trying to learn how to make macros in Excel (Yes dad, be proud! haha) with the help of my companion, he knows SO MUCH! Its so crazy, and I have never looked for patterns in serial numbers like now, but it was fun! haha Just trying to simplify the system so that doing this work isnt too bad!

That was pretty much my week. It was a goodie, now we just gotta go find some more investigators and teach teach teach! I love after 5:30 when we get to go into the streets now cause after being in the office all day we are due in for some talking with people! haha Well I love you all! Cuidase!

Week 2 Change 5

Hola de nuevo!

Well this week wasnt too bad. We had lots to do still, but I have learned quite a bit so I have gotten to do some stuff. The secret is to know how to find it in one of those 17 binders that I said we have to use and find the procedure. It has step by step actions so that I can do any project at any moment. Although, sometimes its easier for Elder Castillo to do something really fast and then move on, so those things I am a little lost.

One funny thing I realized this week is my "office papí" is "Mark" as well as my regular papí back in Vale! And they are both excel guru´s! They both, for fun, like to learn how to make macros and lots of cool things and they like to do everything in excel, even if its just a list of names they need to type! ;) hehe I love ém both too, they both teach me a lot! Although, I have to say I learned a whole lot more at home with my real daddy! =D hehe

Yesterday was my companions birthday too, so instead of a cake, I tried to make my empty tombs... not quite as good as my cinnamon rolls turned out! haha They had a little too much bread to sugar-y-ness but they wre still good! and we also made fruit smoothies for his birthday! And he got a card from his family, so all was well with him!

One good thing that happened this week, president called me with a computer problem and I totally helped him solve the problem over the phone! That right there is pure awesomeness! I got put on the spot and fixed the problem, so I felt pretty good about myself! haha

As for the investigators, its a little slow right now, but we have been visiting a recent convert named Laura, and she is crazy! but tons of fun! she never got married, so she calls us her children! haha I love it! And she is a really strong convert, thats even better! Right now we are just trying to find anyone that will talk with us, but its a lot different working inside the big city, a little crazy! haha

Also, we had to help with the "consejo" (´zone´ council) yesterday and that was fun! we got to play dodgeball with all the zone leaders! and we helped set up lunch and do a bunch of little jobs! I love working in the office cause there is always a lot to do! thats probably why I love it the most, cause there is a lot to do, and I love that! The one thing thats funny though, is everyone is looking so much into what they need to do for college cause they are going home in the next few months, and im just the young little missionary with lots of time left! haha its definitely different and maybe the first time they put someone in the office as young as me. But I am loving it! haha

that was pretty much my week! conference went really well and was SUPER GREAT! I love how much better conference in when you go this long without watching anything! it makes it bombin! haha Well I love you all and I wish you all a fantastic easter! Chao!

change 5 week 1 First week in the office

Hola gente mía! ¡Que te pasa?

This has definitely....been only 5 days since I wrote last! haha But as for my new assignment, we now have p-day on saturday! Wow, things are definitely different! haha

So my first day in the office I walk in and Elder Castillo (my new companion) is like "perfect! Lets get started!" So I said like hello to Elder Stringham and Elder Erickson from my MTC district and then we got to work! And holy cow! I wasnt sure if there was many things that we really had to do here in the office, but I learned quickly there are MOUNTAINS of things to do! I have just been learning this week, but I still get to do some stuff, like help pay rent, do some reimbusements for missionaries and entering information in the computers. Its fun though! Its a new adventure, but I am loving it! Also, in my first two days we had to bring President Gillespie´s car to get serviced and then also the little truck that we get to use.... did I mention that we as office missionaries get to DRIVE! Oh yeah! I just got a whole lot cooler! and I had to watch all the really cheesy "driving safe" videos, but I now have permision to drive here, in fact I HAVE! Although its crazy, I didnt really have many desires to do that, but its kinda cool now that I can say that I have driven in a foreign country! Woo hoo!

Also, we have great unity as all 6 (Secretary, Registrador, Financiero, aprendiz, and the asistentes) of us that live in our pension and we have tons of fun playing lots of games at night, and doing little things in the office to help us stay sane! haha Anotherr cool kick to working in the office, we have lots of contact with the president and help him with lots of things. Thats fun! Also, we have a "matrimonio" missionaries that are working here too! So There are a few of us here and we have a little heat to get away from the cold! (by the way, its starting to get cold! haha)

One different thing, we dont eat with the members everyday because our schedule can be changed pretty fastly according to what needs done and how much time we have to do it all! We do eat with them on sundays, but the other days we make something for ourselves or eat out. But thats the least of my worries! I just gotta do my exercise! haha

We also do a lot of work that we cant really talk about, just who spends money for what and things like that, but thats a given. Its going to be great in here, and I am excited cause its a new adventure and I am loving the mission. We still do our work with investigators in the night too, but we start between 5:30 and 6. So thats my new schedule. Oh and we go to bed at 10:30 and get up at 6:30. So I am still adjusting to the changes, but I am loving it! hope eeryone is doing well, happy conferencia General! Cuidanse!
